about the site
this is my second site on neocities. the first was melodicake, which i first created in mid 2018 but didn't work on for another year, and i had a lot of fun when i started work on it. i frequently made new pages, edits were near constant, and i made some close friends on the network, some i still talk to. and yeah i know i'm talking about it like it was a million years ago even though as of writing it's been about 2 years, but well, considering pandemic circumstances and just generally growing up, it does feel like a million years, lol.
but for the same reasons, my interest in updating and keeping up with neocities slowed down. i still made small edits every now and then, but new pages were rarer than before, and overall, i had a lack of motivation to do anything with the site. which really sucked because i liked having a site, or at least i liked the idea of it, but after all was said and done with obligatory index/about/interests/etc pages, i couldn't really think of anything else to add? and it didn't help that most pages kept to a similar design, so i had little incentive to do much editing when i got tired of that design. i ended up kind of outgrowing it too i guess, as my fandoms and interests shifted and suddenly all the graphics and references everywhere meant less to me.
also i kind of questioned the reason to have a site in general? my main social media sites are mastodon and dreamwidth, and they kind of fill all my needs and cover each other's flaws: mastodon is good for keeping in touch with friends and posting short thoughts, as well as recent happenings in my life and in my interests, while dreamwidth is better for longer written content, like blog posts and more personal journal writings that can be locked to a small group of friends. dreamwidth is also where i post creative stuff like edits, fanfic, playlists, etc. and i still question that, even with this site in existence, but idk, there is something fun about having a whole handcoded site of your own, even if it can be a pain to keep up with sometimes and it's easy to get tired of the designs. blogs are fun, and they're definitely easier to maintain since there's less emphasis on design and general upkeep, but well, neocities is one of a kind with its focus on old school personal sites, so i don't want to completely abandon it.
for a while i wanted to remake the site and start from scratch, but neocities kinda lacks the ability to download an entire site and then delete the existing files, and i was also a bit reluctant to do that anyway, so it was just easier to make a new site. so far i'm not sure how i feel about this one, the different designs on every page, and the less vibrant and chaotic vibe, since i definitely grew attached to the pastels and magical girl graphics of my old site, but whatever i need a new start lol. besides if stuff really starts to bother me i can always change it. or i can site hop again there's nothing stopping me lmao
as mentioned on my about page, the site name comes from mars 2027 by japanese folk artist ichiko aoba. this song is a journey just as the name suggests and i can't recommend it more enough, it's 8 minutes of (literally and figuratively) spacey lofi acoustics. i love her music so much lol
